Let's Be Super All Year!!

As we're getting back into the swing of things, it's time to think about volunteering for the year. The goal of our volunteer requirement is to engage in opportunities as a team that give back to our community. The team requirement is TWO volunteer engagements per year. Please note that this year, ONE of these must be a team opportunity, and the other can be fulfilled on your own.
Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions!

Cheers,
Brim

PROCESS: There is a tab on the race tracker for volunteer opportunities. Just like races, you can add your name to events and enter your own activities. http://bit.ly/2jIAXV2

OPPORTUNITIES: We will be focused on the following opportunities, but we are always open to more, so please feel free to share ideas with me.

One-Time Events:

  1. Rock and Roll Marathon Aid Station - March 11th (* We need at least 25 vols; more info to come but we will have our same spot, time frame is 6:00AM to 11:00AM; sign up via the tracker: http://bit.ly/2jIAXV2)
  2. Rock Creek Park Clean Up - April, October TBD
  3. Achieve Kids Triathlon - August TBD
  4. Humane Society Project - TBD
Team Opportunities: Sometimes the team needs a little help! You can fulfill a volunteer requirement through the following ways:
  1. Kinetic or Luray House Organizer: Kinetic and Luray are our biggest team races and we need 2-3 volunteers to organize housing, post-race parties etc. for each race. This fulfills both or your volunteer requirements.
  2. Host a quarterly Team Dinner. 'Nuf said.
IDEAS TO DO ON YOUR OWN: If you want to fulfill a requirement on your own, but don’t already have an organization that you work with, below are some ideas that the team has worked with.
  1. Miriam's Kitchen: While we have pulled down the regular volunteer opportunity, many of your teammates will continue to volunteer on the third Monday of each month from 4PM-6:30PM. Those who have done this volunteer opp have found it highly rewarding.
  2. KEEN: KEEN DC Swim sessions are held the second Saturday of each month from 9:00-10:30. KEEN’s mission is to empower youth with disabilities by providing one-to-one exercise led by volunteer coaches. KEEN requires a check of references to volunteer: http://bit.ly/1mPT34o.
  3. Back on My Feet: Back on My Feet uses running to help those experiencing homelessness change the way they see themselves so they can make real change in their lives. http://dc.backonmyfeet.org.
  4. Girls on the Run: Girls on the Run inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Opportunities include serving as a buddy runner and helping with their annual 5K. More information can be found here: http://www.gotrdc.org/who-we-are or talk to your teammate Stevie Smith!
